Today SEGA have confirmed that Shenmue I and II will hit console on August 21. Originally released on the Dreamcast, Shemnue hit cult acclaim and for years fans have been calling for a third title to finish off the story. Eventually this became a reality when Shenmue III appeared as a kickstarter. Now that the first games are slated for an Xbox One release, will the third title also find its way onto the console?

Update, July 3: Shenmue I & II remasters release next month.

Ahead of the release of Shenmue III, Sega has confirmed the release date for remasters of the first two games in the trilogy. The company had previously stated that the two games would be released as a remaster, but the date was initially leaked by a posting on the Microsoft store.

That listing on the Microsoft store stated that the two games (which appear to be relatively simple ports of the original releases) will be available from Tuesday, August 21 in Europe (August 20 in America). The listing also states that the games will be bundled together for a release price of $29.99. That's been confirmed now with a launch trailer, which you can watch at the bottom of this article.

Shenmue I & II tells the story of Ryo and his attempt to avenge his father, who was killed by of a man named Lan Di. You’ll have access to the first two games in the trilogy, but with an updated UI, a choice of modern or classic controls, and the ability to scale your resolution. For the first time, Japanese audio will also be available.

Shenmue's HD re-release gets a final date

Sega has given a final release date for its Shenmue HD collection, with the bundle that pairs the original two games with a gentle makeover coming to Xbox One, PS4 and PC on August 21st.
The collection will release with a physical version on PS4 and Xbox One, with the PC remaining digital only - and by pre-ordering now for your platform of choice you can get a 10 per cent discount. The remasters allow players to enjoy a new interface, plus the ability to play with either the English or Japanese dubs - the first time players in the west will have had that option for the first Shenmue.
Shenmue first came out for Sega's Dreamcast in 1999, its sequel following a couple of years later in 2001, and at the time it was the most expensive video game developed, and the last high profile game that legendary creator Yu Suzuki would make for the company that made his name.
