Tyler writes: "This week, we dive into Sony's response to the cross-play controversy as we discuss the statement put forth by PlayStation regarding it. Are they serious about looking at a way to bring cross-play to the PlayStation, or are they just buying time? We also discuss whether we really care about cross-play on consoles, and if cross-play is really something companies should feel obligated to provide. Compared to locking the Epic account for PS4 Fortnite players, is cross-play really that big of a deal?"

Jay from Indian Noob writes;
"Anachronox is a one of a kind game. I doubt there is, or will be another game that succeeds in blending and shifting between different genres like Anachronox has. Tom Halls masterpiece shifts its tone, tropes and genres between missions like its nobodys business. I wish more games tried to be this experimental nowadays. Anachronox is guilty of being made 20 years early. But Im glad that it did. Its a seminal title, one thatll be remembered in the hearts of oldshool RPG lovers for decades to come."

Valve defends decision to back off Steam curation with hard numbers at industry talk

Valve’s move to an ‘anything goes’ approach to deciding which games will appear on Steam is a controversial one, but the company defended the decision by offering up some hard numbers that help describe the scope of the problem at a games industry talk this week in Russia.
Earlier this month, Valve announced that the company would allow any game on Steam so long as it wasn’t either illegal or “trolling.” The move came after outcry over emails the company sent to the developers of adult-themed games, primarily visual novels, telling them to either censor content or have their games pulled from Steam.
Valve might not be doing much curation these days, but we still are! Here's our list of the .
Now, Valve is explaining the subsequent decision to cease curating games almost entirely. Jan-Peter Ewert, head of Valve’s business development, gave a presentation at the Business Conference for Games Industry that laid out some of the numbers the company deals with when it comes to the sheer number of new games coming through Steam Direct.
In one slide, provided via Twitter by , Ewert shows how the number of new games on Steam has increased with each successive indie discovery program. Before Greenlight, which launched in 2012, about five games were released a week. With Greenlight, that number grew to 70 per week, and now with Steam Direct, Valve is seeing about 180 weekly game launches.
Those numbers couple with an ever-expanding Steam playerbase. Ewert said 13.5 million first-time purchasers have arrived on Steam in January through April of this year. They add up to a daunting challenge, wherever you fall on Valve’s decision about curating games.

Because of Battlefront 2, EA’s going to give you loot box odds in FIFA 19

Star Wars Battlefront II was the game which stirred the most vociferous action against loot boxes, but it wasn’t the first EA game to make use of the random blind purchase model. EA Sports titles - FIFA in particular - have offered similar purchases for years as part of the wildly popular Ultimate Team mode. They aren’t going away, but EA does plan a significant change for them starting this year.
Starting with this year’s EA Sports titles, EA will now disclose the odds for Ultimate Team packs. That change will affect FIFA 19 and Madden NFL 19 most obviously, and could indicate that EA plans to move toward more transparency for this monetization scheme across any future titles - though don’t expect them to drop the loot box model entirely.
There's plenty of sport to be had in the .
“Our model is sustainable,” EA Sports vice president and COO Daryl Holt tells . Holt says that the controversy over Battlefront II has “certainly changed us - in the way it always does in terms of anything you hear from a player or from the industry - in how we all react and adapt to it.”

The disclosure of pack odds for sports titles is one such change coming as a result of that feedback, and Holt says it’s an indication of “how we communicate and we deal with live service models and how we test things and implement feedback across all of EA.”
