Introducing... Podcast Lounge 2 UWP

Added: 01.07.2018 19:02 | 1353 views | 0 comments

This won't be news to most AAWP readers, since we've been tracking the beta versions of the UWP implementation of Podcast Lounge for a while, with numerous . But today the commercial app Podcast Lounge 2 is formally launched for all Windows 10 users, on phone, tablet, desktop, etc. I've never seen a beta testing period as extended and as in depth, but the winners are its users, as it arrives fully rounded, with depth in terms of functions and podcast discovery.

UrbanDict UWP packages slang and memes for you

Added: 01.07.2018 19:02 | 1502 views | 0 comments

If you're not 'down with the cool kids' (a phrase which itself - ironically - declares me as NOT one of the cool kids!) then you may need some help deciphering slang you hear in town and online in chat rooms. Which is where the Urban Dictionary comes in. It's a crowd-sourced (and lightly curated) repository of slang and miscellany and... hard to access on mobile, since the web site's not responsive. So a client is needed and this is where this new UWP app for Windows 10 Mobile comes in.

Monument Valley 2 proves that premium games can still be hugely successful

Added: 01.07.2018 18:38 | 1714 views | 0 comments

Monument Valley 2 proves that premium games can still be hugely successful It's hard to believe that it's been a year since snuck out on iOS. Whilst free to play mobile games have proven to be immensely profitable in the long run if they're correctly set up, premium games aren't dead yet as ustwo shows us.
Over last night, ustwo published an article detailing how the first year of Monument Valley 2 compared to that of the game's predecessor. We knew it was coming at the time, but when MV2 dropped during Apple's WWDC 2017 keynote (against a revamped App Store) people were practically raving.

Donut County developer calls out clone of his unreleased game on Twitter

Added: 01.07.2018 18:38 | 1605 views | 0 comments

Donut County developer calls out clone of his unreleased game on Twitter Perhaps you've heard of Hole.io, a newly-released game on the App Store and Play Store. The premise is fairly simple, and similar to other .io games.
You're a hole, you slide around eating things, and you want to eat things faster than the other players. Eating more things makes you bigger, and lets you eat larger objects, almost like Katamari Damacy... but with a hole.
If the concept of a hole navigating around to swallow things up sounds familiar, that's because it's also the premise of , an indie game that's been in production for over five years.
Esposito posted a message on his Twitter today, calling out Hole.io as a clone of his own game. He notes that there are some differences - Donut County has a strong focus on story and narrative, while Hole.io focuses on the multiplayer aspect familiar to .io games.

Flow Mail UWP offers browser wrappers around web mail

Added: 30.06.2018 18:59 | 1423 views | 0 comments

This isn't a new idea, but Flow Mail is a new UWP app that aims to be more polished than the average web wrapper, in this case for four popular webmail systems. In fairness, it claims most functionality under Windows 10 on Desktop, but it still works for Windows 10 on phones, so let's dive in.

Review: ProGet Universal (UWP)

Added: 30.06.2018 18:59 | 1306 views | 0 comments

Instagram (as far as I can see) has always been a bit quirky. Sticking to low res VGA images for so long stopped me taking it seriously. And even today, simple features like being able to download photos you like seem to be missing. Probably partly for copyright reasons, but mainly to keep the content 100% under Instagram's control. ProGet Universal (a UWP app for all Windows 10, of course) solves the image acquisition issue - and in some style.
