After another inspiring and exciting week of speedrunning, Summer Games Done Quick 2018 concluded today in Minneapolis after hauling in more than $2.1 million in donations to Doctors Without Borders.
As ever, SGDQ’s speedrunners served up too many amazing moments to count, but a couple standouts included a Dustforce DX race between fishmcmuffins and Freshmaniac, a speedrun of Warcraft III’s Undead campaign, and Linkus7 showing off some new tricks he’s discovered in The Legend of Zelda: Windwaker HD. The event concluded with an exciting speedrun of Final Fantasy VI.
This year, more than 35,000 people donated a total of $2,123,885, for an average donation of $60.09, surpassing last year’s haul of $1,792,342. This is the first year SGDQ has hit the $2 million mark, and it's the most money the summer event has raised since it began in 2011.

This year’s SGDQ proceeds are again going to Doctors Without Borders, a non-governmental organization that began in France and works to help people in areas stricken by violent conflict or disease epidemics. Games Done Quick has also raised money for humanitarian organization CARE, the Prevent Cancer Foundation, AbleGamers Foundation, the Organization for Autism Research, and the Houston Food Bank in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey in 2017.
The next GDQ event will be Awesome Games Done Quick, which is scheduled for January 6-13 in Rockville, Maryland.

Following thats Monster Hunter World would be making its presence felt in Final Fantasy XIV later this year, Capcom has announced that an iconic Final Fantasy creature will soon be coming to Monster Hunter World.
Specifically, as part of Capcom and Square Enix's crossover collaboration, the formidable Behemoth - which has made an appearance in almost every Final Fantasy game in some form - will be making its way to Monster Hunter World in a free update this summer.
You can see the beast make its impressive entrance to in the trailer below. And if you watch to the end, there's a quick glimpse of a Cactuar - which presumably arrives as a Palico costume.

The director of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII remake says he feels that the game was announced “too early.” Game director Tetsuya Nomura addressed fan disappointment after formation about the game was not revealed at E3 earlier this month.
The remake of Final Fantasy VII was first announced over three years ago, at E3 2015. Since then, despite a warm reception and plenty of fan enthusiasm for the project, Square Enix are yet to provide any new information about the game's release. On top of that, it’s now been three years since that initial reveal - three E3 showcases have come and gone, and fans are yet to hear anything more.

In an interview with Italian website (via ), Nomura said that “I am well aware of the fact that we announced [the game] too early,” saying that “even in the industry, word was beginning to spread that we were working on the game, so we just decided not to keep it more secret and officially reveal it.” final fantasy 7 remake battle system

Nomura also stated that he felt that his other project, Kingdom Hearts 3, had been announced too early as well. However, new information that came out about that project at E3 earlier this month could mean that FFVII is currently in development alongside KH3.

Nomura went on to talk about the difficulty attached to announcing games, stating that “deciding when to announce your game to the public is always difficult. In our case, we receive pressure from the fans even when we do not announce anything.”
