As EA backtracks on loot boxes and pay-to-win, I'm left wondering: what about FIFA?

Two moments from EA's E3 2018 media briefing stuck with me long after I left the blazing heat of Los Angeles. The first was EA's dramatic Champions League trophy reveal, up close and personal as it was for me as I sat in the tiny chairs squeezed into the Hollywood Palladium's mosh pit. It made me gasp. I knew an announcement about FIFA finally getting the Champions League after years of exclusivity on PES was coming (thanks, ). But as a football fan, seeing the actual Champions League trophy within touching distance had the hairs on the back of my neck doing a merry dance. The second was EA boss Andrew Wilson's closing remarks, which I've struggled to shake because, well, I'm not going to pull any punches here - they stank of hypocrisy.

The week after E3, PlayStation gamers should be talking about Last of Us Part 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding, and at the very least build the hype towards Spiderman PS4. Instead, Fortnite cross-play controversy has dropped on the very slow news week to dominate as the must talk about issue in the industry, which has led some fans to worry whether or not Sony is going back to their arrogant past. The Trophy Room host, Joseph and Kyle talk about whether or not gamers should be apprehensive about Sony and PlayStation, as they transition into the next generation.

Piracy is Dead. Well, Ubisoft better hope it isn't as their new Pirate game, Skull and Bones, has been given a brand new trailer for E3. Created by Ubisoft Singapore, it will release in 2019. Skull and Bones is set in the Indian Ocean, where your aim is to steal every last coin and become the pirate no one can take down. You can choose your type of mission, much like Sea of Thieves, and it also takes place in a shared world, also very reminiscent of Rare's pirate game. There is a huge amount of inspiration taken from Assassins Creed Black Flag.

Ubisoft showed off a highly polished live action trailer of Beyond Good and Evil 2, featuring a very young – and good looking Jade – while CGI, it looks every bit as enticing as when we saw the game at last year’s E3. During the show, Ubisoft are showing off a behind closed doors demo but they did show limited pre-alpha gameplay footage. The open universe of Beyond Good and Evil 2 can be played solo or in co-op. Ubisoft also announced the Space Monkey Program, a platform for the community to contribute ideas, artwork and music, and be a part of creating the game. Platforms are still unannounced.

The Square Enix E3 show consisted of a thirty minute pre-recorded segment instead of the live spectacles that we have witnessed from EA, Microsoft and Bethesda. They kicked off showing more gameplay footage of the forthcoming Shadow Of The Tomb Raider, with Lara taking the role of a killing machine as she stalks her enemies in an overgrown jungle. There were also re-caps of a few of the games featured in yesterday's Xbox show, with Just Cause 4, Kingdom Hearts 3, Captain Spirit and Nier Automata all featuring, however further information was very scant. The other games that were featured in very quick trailers were three Final Fantasy XIV Online monikered titles - Stormblood: Final Fantasy XIV Online, Under the Moonlight and Final Fantasy XIV Online X Monster Hunter World (coming in Summer 2018). We then moved onto Dragon Quest XI - Echoes of an Elusive Age followed by a new Platinum Games title called Babylon's Fall which is launching in 2019 on PS4 and Steam. Then we saw Octopath Traveller on the Nintendo Switch. Finally we saw a trailer for The Quiet Man which is coming to PS4 and Steam. This was completely different to everything else seen as it started as a CGI trailer that seamlessly moved into gameplay footage. More footage of this to come in August. Overall, this felt like a very rushed and thrown together thirty minutes, that didn't give us any further details on games that we hadn't seen before.
