The PlayStation 4 BBC iPlayer app now has a 4K mode. More specifically, an update that brings the app to version 2.0 is available now, just a few days into the World Cup and just a few hours before England kick off their campaign against Tunisia. We've downloaded the update and tested the iPlayer on our PS4 Pro. The Belgium v Panama match, which is ongoing, displays with the BBC Ultra HD symbol on the top right-hand corner of the screen and outputs at 3840x2160.
| You can get a PSVR starter bundle with Superhot VR for £200 this week

With the PlayStation Days of Play sale winding down - by which, I mean, today's the last day of that promotion - you may want to snap up one of the while you still can. Fortunately, Amazon's just listed one of the better options we've seen so far. For a limited time and while the stock still remains, you can get yourself a bundle of a PSVR headset, a PS4 camera, and copies of PSVR Worlds and the excellent Superhot VR, . As a die-hard fan of the original Superhot, I can tell you that it's one of the most innovative shooters in years and its virtual reality companion is one hell of an experience for a time-based puzzle-shooter...thing. That price discounts the regular cost of the PSVR starter bundle already, so you're getting that copy of Superhot VR at no extra cost. It also makes this bundle one of the last bundles remaining in stock after the Days of Play discounts have meant a lot of the other variants (Skyrim VR, Doom VFR) are well and truly sold out by now.
| EA Sports: FIFA 19 cross-platform play "a net benefit to users"

With cross-platform play after it emerged you can't use your Epic account on the Nintendo Switch version of Fortnite if you've used it on the PlayStation 4 version, many within the FIFA community have also wondered whether the feature might come to the world's biggest sports video game. Currently, FIFA has no cross-platform play at all. Unlike, say, Rocket League, which lets PC players match with other players across PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch (the PS4 can't be matched up with Xbox One nor Switch), FIFA does not let players on different platforms play together. FIFA does not let you use one account across multiple platforms, either (FIFA players have long called for the ability to use the same account for a persistent FIFA Ultimate Team experience across console and PC). And the online FUT marketplace is platform specific, too, which limits market activity.
| Ghost of Tsushima will have Japanese audio track option
Added: 29.06.2018 18:37 | 521 views | 0 comments
PlayStation 4 exclusive Ghost of Tshushima drew comments last night during PlayStation's E3 conference from fans wishing that the Japan-set game would feature a Japanese language option. Today, in a press demo of the game attended by Eurogamer, developer Sucker Punch confirmed just that. The details are still being worked upon, but a Japanese-language option with English subtitles was mentioned. The demo we saw consisted of the gameplay section shown during PlayStation's press conference, but now in Japanese. Plans are afoot to localise the full game, Sucker Punch said. Featuring a keen eye for detail (Sucker Punch mentioned sending an audio scout to Japan to record, among other things, native birdsong), Ghost of Tshushima is intended as a "time machine" for players wanting an accurate representation of the location and era. A Japanese language soundtrack would certainly help with this.
| Sony offers beauty, evasion and a little hubris at E3
Added: 29.06.2018 18:37 | 766 views | 0 comments
There are a number of reasons why Sony's PlayStation showcase at this year's E3 was a little odd - and to be fair to the electronics giant, it did warn us. A few weeks ago, Sony issued word that it would be taking a new approach, avoiding major first-party announcements and focusing on four games that had already broken cover at least a year previously: Spider-Man, The Last of Us Part 2, Death Stranding and Ghosts of Tsushima. (Days Gone, star of the show two years ago, seems to have been thrown under a bus - and it's .) This was a surprisingly blunt bit of expectation management, and the truth behind it is quite simple. Sony's marketing enthusiasm has long outpaced its actual first-party game development, and having announced too much too soon over the course of the last five years, it needed to take a year on the benches to let the studios catch up. There are simply no unannounced PS4 exclusives left in the tank. (Or if there are, Sony has in its wisdom decided it is too early, or E3 is not the right venue for any of them.) Nor was it necessarily a problem. Armed with the knowledge that we would not be surprised, we could relax and enjoy extensive demos of four strikingly beautiful-looking games. Well, three. It's good that Spider-Man is only a few months from release, because this antic, joyful superhero game from Insomniac begs to be played and didn't really need another overly busy and garish demo, stuffed with characters and complicated peril, to sell us on it. It was an odd choice for the closer given the majesty on display elsewhere.
| God of War is getting a New Game+ mode
Added: 29.06.2018 18:37 | 908 views | 0 comments
Sony has revealed, during its PlayStation E3 showcase, that God of War will be getting a New Game+ mode in a future update - as apparently requested by many fans. "Whether you've defeated all the Valkyries, conquered the daunting combat trials of Niflheim and Muspelheim, or simply accomplished your journey with Kratos and Atreus," Sony's explains, "there is one very strong reason to stay in the realm of God of War - New Game+". As you'd expect, New Game+ will enable you to start a new game of God of War with all of the armour and upgrades you acquired on your previous play-through in tact - and that includes pommels, talismans, "and more".
| Koei Tecmo announces Nioh 2

Koei Tecmo announced Nioh 2 during the PlayStation E3 bonanza today. No details were given, nor release date - just a brief trailer with the game's name. Team Ninja is once again developing, and presumably it's a case of if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
| Remedy's new game is surreal supernatural shooter Control
Added: 29.06.2018 18:37 | 540 views | 0 comments
Remedy has unveiled its next game, Control - a rather surreal looking shooter that's coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC next year. As introduced by a guitar-playing banana at Sony's E3 showcase (unrelated), the brisk, largely inexplicable trailer sees an unnamed protagonist wandering through the constantly shifting innards of a very strange building - referred to as The Oldest House - walls ever-reshaping around her. "There are rules, and rituals," she explains, "you can keep travelling deeper". Adding a bit of extra context, publisher 505 Games steps in, explaining, "After a secretive agency in New York is invaded by an otherworldly threat, you become the new Director struggling to regain Control."
| Resident Evil 2 Remake launches January 2019
Added: 29.06.2018 18:37 | 795 views | 0 comments
Capcom's remake of Resident Evil 2 will launch for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 25th January 2019. A fresh trailer with our first proper look at the game was just demoed during PlayStation's bizarro E3 2018 press conference. We saw a darker take on the game as people get flesh ripped out of them, rats getting turned to zombies and Leon once again looking handsome. Both Leon and Claire will have their own, separate campaigns.
