Fortnite's Playground mode is now live

Fortnite’s Playground Mode has returned. The Limited Time game mode, which allows players to build and explore without the threat of imminent death around every corner, went live last night.

The limited time mode was initially scheduled to release last week. Mere hours after its initial launch, however, matchmaking issues meant that Epic had to close the mode, before eventually pulling it from the game. The matchmaking issues were fixed relatively quickly, but further fixes meant that the release of the mode was delayed by nearly a week - the developer tweeted early this morning to confirm that Playground Mode is now available for all players.

In a post on , a spokesperson from Epic confirmed that the company had “completed deploying our servers containing the improved matchmaking changes. All players can now join in on the fun in the Playground LTM.” To access the mode without any further issues, Epic says you’ll need to change your matchmaking region to “auto select,” and check that you’re on your preferred region. Players have already been building some impressive creations in the mode. The highlight of those, for me at least, is a jousting rig. Using trolleys (and a hell of a lot of wood) two players scoot towards each other down two enormous ramps. As they meet in the middle, one of them pulls a shotgun and kills their friend. But don’t worry, Playground allows for near-instant respawns.
