Private World of Warcraft server Light’s Hope has suffered a major data breach, compromising the personal data of forum users including email and IP addresses. After the breach occurred, an email went out to all Light’s Hope users, accusing the project’s management of corruption, selling user accounts to profit from gold farmers.
That accusatory email out back on June 30, and Light’s Hope commented on the breach earlier today, saying that the forums had been the target of a “mass-bruteforcing attack targeting accounts owned by staff.” They took efforts to prevent the attack, but on June 8 “a user account with access to the administrative parts of the forum” was compromised.

The Light’s Hope operations lead says this breach only affected the forums, and not website or game accounts, though “username, bcrypt hashed password, email, and IP addresses were compromised.” Efforts like two-factor authentication are being put in place to prevent similar breaches from occurring in the future.
“We are disgusted that the hackers released the private information of players in full, without any kind of redaction or anonymizing, thereby fully violating those players privacy and exposing them to spam, phishing attacks, and other unwanted attention. This was a poor attempt at discrediting the Light's Hope Project, however the only victims in this incident are you, the players.”

Update, July 3: Shenmue I & II remasters release next month.
Ahead of the release of Shenmue III, Sega has confirmed the release date for remasters of the first two games in the trilogy. The company had previously stated that the two games would be released as a remaster, but the date was initially leaked by a posting on the Microsoft store.
That listing on the Microsoft store stated that the two games (which appear to be relatively simple ports of the original releases) will be available from Tuesday, August 21 in Europe (August 20 in America). The listing also states that the games will be bundled together for a release price of $29.99. That's been confirmed now with a launch trailer, which you can watch at the bottom of this article.
Check out our list for some great .
Shenmue I & II tells the story of Ryo and his attempt to avenge his father, who was killed by of a man named Lan Di. You’ll have access to the first two games in the trilogy, but with an updated UI, a choice of modern or classic controls, and the ability to scale your resolution. For the first time, Japanese audio will also be available.
Hopefully there’ll be enough in those first two games to keep you busy until the . That game, which was first announced at E3 2015, has already been delayed twice - once into the second half of 2018, and then into 2019.
One of the more surprising stories to come out of E3 2018 was the news that CD Projekt Red's heavily anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 will be a first-person RPG, not the third-person RPG that fans of The Witcher series expected.
If you’re a fan of The Witcher 3 this is a departure from the third-person action style you’ve seen and I can understand an initial disappointment but if you’re a fan of RPGs as a whole, there have been plenty of incredible, highly acclaimed first-person RPGs that you probably already enjoy.
Dishonored, Deus Ex, Bioshock are each exceptional examples of how the perspective fits the mechanics of an RPG and immersive sims. This is a storied genre that Cyberpunk 2077 appears to be learning from while providing its own unique innovations.
We still don't know the but we've good reason to suspect it might be .
The developers revealed that the reason for this CD Projekt Red says this change was to and allow players to immerse themselves within the character. Cyberpunk 2077’s rich beauty is definitely one of its most enticing attributes, and being able to see it up close instead of over-the-shoulder will only make the eye-bleeding fidelity that much sweeter.
In tone, Cyberpunk 2077’s nearest neighbour is clearly Deus Ex, specifically for its city base, augmentations and overwhelming corporate oppression.
The Super PI world record has been crushed by a system running a Coffee Lake CPU on a Kaby Lake 200-series system, against Intel’s platform lockdown. Overclocker Dancop fitted an Intel i7 8700K chip into a Z270 motherboard, and drenched it in liquid nitrogen, to tear through the single-threaded pi calculator benchmark.
So, it looks like Intel’s Coffee Lake platform lock has been subverted once again. Intel locked down compatibility for its latest Coffee Lake CPUs to only 300-series motherboards, supposedly because of power limitations due to the bump in core-count, but modders have been set about proving Intel wrong ever since.
Ready to take a chance on the silicon lottery? Here are the money can buy.
Back in March a group of zealous modders managed to fool Intel’s security measures, bypass the platform lock, and get one of the budget i3 8350K processors working on a Z170 motherboard intended for 14nm Skylake parts. The board’s PCIe failed to work after that, but for the most part it was a convincing success. So long as you didn't want to plumb a graphics card into it anyway.
The employed by Dancop to workaround Intel’s measures is not perfect either.
It is a truth universally acknowledged by every patriotic English man, woman, and child, that football’s coming home. And forget grassroots support or a new management regime - the true key to England’s World Cup 2018 success (or lack of abject failure, if you prefer) is Fortnite.
Ok, that might be a slight reach, but the team’s captain, Harry Kane, says that Epic’s battle royale is as important part of the squad’s downtime. In an interview with the BBC’s Gabby Logan, Kane said that “playing Fortnite” was what he and the team did when they’re not worrying about scoring goals.
Not many of the games on our list of the best have the backing of international sports stars.
In the interview (via - you can watch highlights of the match it appeared in ) Kane continued “as silly as it sounds, playing Fortnite passes the time quite well. There are quite a few of us playing a few games of that.” Kane, who is currently topping the goal-scoring tables at the tournament, says that he’s “probably” playing more Fortnite at the tournament than he does when he’s playing football at home in England.
The battle royale’s popularity among the England team is well documented. After scoring against Panama during the group stages of the tournament, Jesse Lingard performed the popular ‘Shoot’ dance, which appears as a dance in the game. Kane’s Tottenham and England teammate, Dele Alli, has regularly performed similar dances after scoring goals in the Premier League.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is looking like even less of an Assassin’s Creed game than last year’s Origins, which was already a marked departure from the franchise formula, imbuing the series with trendy RPG elements.
Odyssey is set prior to the founding of the Assassin Order, and while in the lore there is a little evidence of early assassins getting up to no good, it looks like the character you choose won’t wear the hood or have a hidden blade, instead carrying the Spear of Leonidas, a Piece of Eden with as-of-yet unconfirmed powers.
If all this is indicative of anything, it’s that Assassin’s Creed is now more focused on historical storytelling than sticking to its own tried and tested formula. The E3 showcase boasted vignettes of gorgeous Greek architecture, nuanced action-RPG combat, and huge battles with multiple enemies, a far cry from the quiet subterfuge of the original game.
We already know and it's looking like it will join our list .
What excited me most about Odyssey was that Ubisoft has shifted its focus to creating a lived-in historical slice, rather than trying to shoehorn the (let’s be honest) totally wild and contrived story of Abstergo into a period that doesn’t need any extra flavour to be interesting. Ancient Greece laid the foundation for our modern societal values with its progressive approach to sexuality and iconic philosophy and mythology.
Whether it’s tragedy or comedy, we cannot escape the legacy of its influence on the stories we consume and share with one another even today. Choosing to focus on recreating that is a brilliant pivot, as Ubisoft’s previous approach only worked to undermine what they’re best at.
Revolutionary America was an instantly compelling setting, but Assassin’s Creed III was ultimately dragged down by the need to connect everything to Desmond Miles and the First Civilization.
Picking the best gaming motherboard is a vital part of piecing together your gaming PC, so we’ve tested the best Intel Z370 motherboards and mainstream chipsets for you.
It might not have the same performance impact as your choice of graphics card or CPU, but your motherboard will dictate which of either you can jam in your gaming build. And it doesn't stop there, your motherboard will decide what sort of storage drives you can plug in and what memory you can use too. We’ve tested the best boards from Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, and ASRock to help you choose the right one to build your rig around.
Take a look at our pick of the , y'know, for contrast.
There are myriad options to consider when you’re picking the best motherboard for gaming. The most important choice, however, is whether you’re opting for an Intel or AMD processor as the beating heart of your rig. Last year team red launched the AMD Ryzen CPU platform, along with a whole new line of AM4 motherboards, making the choice a lot tougher.
We’ve covered the best AMD gaming motherboards in another guide to cater for the CPUs, but, because Intel can still just about claim the absolute best gaming performance from its platform, we're focusing on the different Intel options here.

Doom Eternal was revealed at E3 this year, and it’s the ultimate compliment to the 2016 reboot - a proper sequel. It features more beefy demons in the style of the first game, and from the sounds of it, another exquisite industrial metal soundtrack courtesy of id Software’s resident composer Mick Gordon.
Doom 2016’s creative director Marty Stratton has handed over the reins to the studio’s art director, Hugo Martin - so expect the most beautiful gore you’ve ever seen in your history of PC gaming. This time we’re going to Earth, but not as we know it. Id has twisted the planet into a delightful hellscape, which makes clear the demons have escaped Mars and found a new home with us.
The last Doom is aleady on our list of on PC, will Eternal make the cut?
While id Software unveiled Doom Eternal’s first trailer at E3, it failed to mention much else about it - other than the fact there will be plenty of new features. That won’t be down to a missing paragraph on the autocue - id Software is planning to debut the game properly on its home turf, at QuakeCon in Dallas this August.
Until then, there’s still plenty to chew on. Join us for a speculative dive into the nightmarish world of Doom Eternal.

The Vive Pro is finally available as a completed kit with all the bits you need for immersive gaming - for only $1,400 / £1,299. Ouch. This “professional-grade VR” headset launched back at the end of April, however, until recently had only been available as a standalone headset for $799.
Gamers had high hopes for the Vive Pro back when it was first announced. The Vive has been around for quite some time and was in need of an upgrade. Enter: the Vive Pro… sort of. With a modicum of visual fidelity improvements, improved ergonomics, integrated headphones, and a huge bump in price, the Vive Pro fell short of expectations. And so, with that, it was back to basics or modding the original Vive for yourself.
Need some serious graphical grunt to power your virtual reality headset? Here are the on the market.
The new and improved headset didn’t even come with all the kit necessary for room-scale tracking or come with any controllers in the box. That’s despite the higher price tag than the all-inclusive first-generation Vive headset package all in, with all the extras included, and a wireless adapter.
But HTC has now completed the top-end setup. The Full Kit comes with two Steam VR 2.0 base stations and two matching Vive Pro blue wand controllers for / .
Fortnite’s Playground Mode has returned. The Limited Time game mode, which allows players to build and explore without the threat of imminent death around every corner, went live last night.
The limited time mode was initially scheduled to release last week. Mere hours after its initial launch, however, matchmaking issues meant that Epic had to close the mode, before eventually pulling it from the game. The matchmaking issues were fixed relatively quickly, but further fixes meant that the release of the mode was delayed by nearly a week - the developer tweeted early this morning to confirm that Playground Mode is now available for all players.
Fortnite sits comfortably on our list of the .
In a post on , a spokesperson from Epic confirmed that the company had “completed deploying our servers containing the improved matchmaking changes. All players can now join in on the fun in the Playground LTM.” To access the mode without any further issues, Epic says you’ll need to change your matchmaking region to “auto select,” and check that you’re on your preferred region.
Players have already been building some impressive creations in the mode. The highlight of those, for me at least, is a jousting rig. Using trolleys (and a hell of a lot of wood) two players scoot towards each other down two enormous ramps. As they meet in the middle, one of them pulls a shotgun and kills their friend. But don’t worry, Playground allows for near-instant respawns.
Blizzard is testing the launch of Battle for Azeroth, beginning today. The new World of Warcraft expansion isn’t actually due to launch until the middle of next month, but a test build will hit the beta client later today, giving access to some of the earliest parts of WoW’s new chapter.
Testing begins at 14:00 PDT (22:00 BST) with the arrival of the Teldrassil scenario and the battle for Lordaeron. Those will take place on a new Beta realm called Launch Test, which testers will be able to copy their live characters over to. Once there, you’ll have access to the full storyline, minus a few important cutscenes that Blizzard doesn’t want you to have access to just yet.
If WoW's not your bag, check out some great .
In a post on the (via ), community manager Kaivax says that that same realm will be updated on Thursday July 5 “to test the subsequent events of the actual launch of BAttle for Azeroth.” To get access to that test, beta testers will need to have completed the Lordaeron scenario before it goes live. Assuming they’ve done so, testers will then be invited to the expansion’s first test.
Kaivax says that the purpose of the test is “to check for bottleneck issues where many players are competing for the same resources,” as well as allowing Blizzard to monitor for server issues. With that in mind, don’t expect this to be the smoothest WoW experience you’ve ever had.
The mainstream media is full of stories about national football teams kicking back and playing smash hit battle royale Fortnite in their spare time at the World Cup in Russia at the moment, but it appears the Brazilian team would rather play Counter-Strike: Global Offensive than battle it out around Tilted Towers.
It’s no big secret that Neymar Jr is a big fan of the Valve shooter, having being snapped several times with FalleN and the rest of the current MiBR roster, but it was a surprise seeing the superstar running over to his teammates after scoring Brazil’s first goal against Mexico yesterday, and pretending to blind them with a poorly thrown flashbang.
Need to blow off some steam before the next match? Grab your friends and try our.
The celebration, known as the flashbang dance, not only caught the eye of the CS:GO community on Reddit, but also the game’s developers who shared a gif of the celebration with a reminder for Neymar to call his flashbangs:

Regardless of whether you’re a professional miner or someone about to load up their first world, there’s something you can't control in Minecraft: the terrain itself. While your mind may be brimming with possibilities, all too frequently you’ll spawn in a bland, uninspiring world full of flat grassland and the odd chicken. Hardly the canvas for your masterpiece.
Hence this article, a complete collection of the best Minecraft seeds, from the inspiring to the functional and everything in between.
(Before we start it’s important to note that the end results of a seed are entirely dependent on what version of Minecraft you are running. A brilliant seed in version 1.6 could be something upsettingly bland in version 1.7. To help you out, we’ve put the latest version each seed works with in brackets after the seed code. Set your Minecraft launcher to this version for the correct results.)

The studio behind Left 4 Dead and Evolve, Turtle Rock Studios, is calling for a senior level designer to work on an “a globally known game franchise”. The listing calls for a candidate with “experience working with modern FPS engines” and on “a competitive first person shooter”, all which hint towards a new multiplayer series… our hopes are on a new Left 4 Dead but there is a lot to suggest it will be something quite different.
Turtle Rock Studios has a history of creating FPS games, after Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 the studio created Evolve - the 4 v 1 monster hunting shooter. Evolve never found an audience after its launch in 2015, and it announced in 2016 that it was ceasing the development of the franchise including all bug fixes and content updates. The likelihood of another Evolve game seems pretty unlikely at this point given its cancellation, though not entirely impossible, especially if they want a second crack at reviving the series.

A senior level designer is not the only role the studio is seeking.

If you divide your passions equally between Fortnite and filmmaking, then boy do Epic have the competition for you. The Fortnite Blockbuster challenge was announced last night, letting players put their filmmaking skills to the test for the chance to win in-game prizes and a healthy portion of V-Bucks.
Given the superhero theme of Season 4 (which is due to come to an end in a little over a week), it’s not surprising that the focus of the challenge is to create a superhero narrative. As Epic themselves put it, “every hero needs a story.”
Check out our list of the .
Using the replay system and a healthy selection of superhero skins, players will have to create a film between one and five minutes long. It’ll have to highlight the superhero nature of its characters while telling an original story (so no Thanos, I guess). You’ll also have to capture the tone of Fortnite, as well as show off how well you can use the replay system.
You won’t be allowed to use copyrighted audio, and submissions must not have narration or on-screen text, but beyond that, it seems that you have free reign over your creation. Once complete, you’ll have to upload your film to YouTube, and email it to Epic by 23:59 ET on July 11. You can read full instructions .
If you're killed by another player in Fallout 76, your murderer will get "a status as being wanted", according to Bethesda director Todd Howard. There will be a bounty for anyone who kills them in turn, and to facilitate this, they will be marked visible to all other players.
Howard says he doesn't want to force people into particular playstyles, but that he does "want systems that reward certain behaviour [...] If you stop playing the game because of another player acting like an asshole, we have encouraged the wrong things."
Eager to take on more multiplayer adventures? Check out a few of the .
Thus, rather than bluntly punish players for griefing you, there will be incentives against such behaviour through the wanted system.
"Let's say [a player] murders somebody who didn't want to engage in combat. That's possible at the moment, yet very, very hard to do - maybe that will change. He gets a status as being 'wanted', and can't do a lot of the things other players can do. All the other players can now see him and he gets a big bounty on his head. He becomes some sort of epic enemy, that every other player can go after."
Howard was speaking to German site (here's an English translation on ).
